Job Summary
The Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs is the Chief Academic Officer for the College and is the executive head of the Student Affairs division. The VPASA serves on the Presidents Cabinet and reports directly to the President. The position provides executive leadership, management, and support to faculty and staff to achieve excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, student support services, instructional and student technology, and strategic planning. The VPASA is the principal steward in the assessment of academic programs and student services and works closely with senior management in implementing the Colleges strategic plan.
Nature of Work
In addition to ensuring the smooth operations of the Academic and Student Affairs Divisions, the VPASA makes recommendations to the President on vision and overall guidance for policy formulation, educational planning, new instructional program development, and the integration of instructional and student services with all other areas of the College.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Performs other functions as required or assigned. Also complies with all Policies and Standards.
Summary of Responsibilities :
Provides strong, dynamic academic and administrative leadership, fosters a collegial environment that encourages teaching and learning excellence as well as creativity in designing effective student services.
Advocates and promotes quality instruction and student success to meet the needs of students in a multi-campus community college environment.
Advocates for all students to ensure their needs are met.
Fosters a positive, collegial environment that promotes diversity and excellence in all areas of responsibility.
Works effectively with faculty, community groups, K-12 and colleges / universities, business, industry, government, and legislative bodies to develop partnerships that result in strategic partnerships and improved services to the students and the community.
Provides strategic vision and leadership for curriculum and new program development, academic and student services policies, assessment, staffing / scheduling of academic programs and student services for the College.
Accountable for institutional effectiveness related to Academic and Student Affairs
Accountable for meeting accreditation standards for regional and programmatic accrediting bodies.
Supervises and evaluates Academic and Student Affairs deans, directors, and other identified staff, and makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and termination of divisional employees.
Meets on a regular basis with Faculty Senate, curriculum committee, appropriate governance committees, Student Affairs staff, and faculty to provide effective communication as well as to solicit input and involvement.
Submits recommendation for faculty appointments, reappointments, rank, tenure, dismissal, salary adjustments, and promotions to the President.
Recommends curricular changes requiring President, Board of Governors, and / or WV Council for Community and Technical College approvals
Coordinates and approves final versions of academic calendar, course schedules, and the college catalog.
Monitors the faculty credit hour production and adjusts as required.
Coordinates the development of the annual Academic and Student Affairs budgets and allocates approved operating budgets to units; ensures all spending is within the allocated budget.
Supervises, coordinates, and / or serves as a resource for all assessment activities in Academic and Student Affairs.
Works with Institutional Effectiveness on relevant data analysis and acts on the results of that analysis.
Coordinates all student assessment activities with applicable departments and / or committees.
Ensure all program reviews are completed and the findings of the reviews are implemented.
Develops and manages the Strategic Enrollment Plan.
Ensures that student life programs and student services are in keeping with best practices and assist the College in fulfilling its mission.
Provides executive level management for student ADA compliance, Student Government Association, and other similar services
Professional Development
Compliance training is to be completed routinely and timely.
Participate in additional professional development opportunities through LinkedIn Learning and professional organization affiliations.

- Knowledge of FERPA, ADA, and other state and federal regulations that affect Academic and Student Affairs.
- Demonstrated resourceful approaches to handling budgetary matters including the ability to plan, develop, and manage complex budgets.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated group leadership skills which emphasize collaboration, consensus building, conflict resolution, and problem solving.

Experience
In addition to the knowledge / education, the following related work experience is typically required, for this position. An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be acceptable.
Administrative Experience - 5 years or more in Higher Education - Required
College-level teaching - 3 years or more - Required
Community College Experience - Teaching and / or Administrative experience in community college - Preferred
