We are seeking an enthusiastic professional who is passionate about Automotive Service Technology for a part-time Workforce Instructor position. Workforce faculty are expected to be experts in the field and excel in facilitating classroom instruction.
This position is a part-time position, 16 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, 5pm-9pm, working from the Mercer County Vo-Tech Center and will report directly to the Dean, Technical, Workforce and Community Education.
Job Summary
Workforce Instructors serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Workforce faculty are expected to excel in classroom instruction and to fulfill various responsibilities related to their assigned teaching duties.
Nature of Work
Workforce faculty is responsible for teaching an area of expertise within a specific period.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Performs other functions as required or assigned. Also complies with all Policies and Standards.
Summary of Core Responsibilities:
Possess thorough and accurate knowledge of the field/discipline.
Develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning; prepare the syllabi; and teach classes in a way that encourages student learning.
Meet classes as scheduled.
Be accessible to students through e-mail, phone, and scheduled office hours or at other times.
Evaluate student work and maintain accurate records of students academic standing.
Provide students with constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback in a timely manner.
Respect the confidentiality of student information; refrain from discussing or releasing such information except within recognized limits.
Demonstrate integrity and positive interpersonal and communication skills.
Provide hands-on, competency-based instruction in automotive technology, ensuring students gain industry-relevant skills.
Follow provided lesson plans and instructional materials to support student learning.
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and skill development.
Ensure students adhere to safety standards in all shop activities.
Maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, and industry partners.
Inform the Department Chair responsible or Dean of any concerns related to classroom equipment or facilities.
Assess and document student progress as required.
Implement and uphold college policies, including those governing student conduct.
Participate in professional development activities to remain current in the automotive field.
Develop relationships with local automotive service providers to support student employment opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Workforce, Technical, and Community Education
Skills:
Demonstrated proficiency in the technical area of expertise.
Well-versed in current teaching trends, techniques, resources, and technology for both onsite and virtual learning, as necessary
Education
Associate's Degree OR Industry Equivalent Certificate from a Technical College - Automotive Service Technology - Required
Experience
In addition to the knowledge/education, the following related work experience is typically required for this position. An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be acceptable.
Five years of full-time employment experience directly related to automotive technology.
Experience Details - Demonstrated proficiency or ASE certifications in electrical/electronics, steering & suspension, brakes, engines, and HVAC - Required.
