Aquarium Fish Husbandry Technician

Job Summary:

Perfect for freshwater or saltwater hobbyists! Join our team as a Fish Husbandry Technician and play a crucial role in the care and maintenance of our facility. As an Aquarium Fish Husbandry Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of the fish population, overseeing environmental conditions, and supporting the overall operations of the shop.

Responsibilities:

• The Fish Husbandry Technician will demonstrate a passion for fish husbandry, a good work ethic, and attention to detail
• They will also perform a variety of husbandry duties including feeding, mortality removal, tank cleaning, and acclimation of new arrivals
• Review daily water chemistry reporting and make corrections or adjustments as needed for all systems in the facility
• Ensure water filtration, heating, cooling, and lighting systems are working properly
• Oversee husbandry of all animals to ensure their safety and well-being in the facility each day
• Oversee the acclimation and safe positioning of all inbound livestock to “best practice standards” developed and documented in operations procedures provided during training
• Oversee the transfer and relocation of livestock in the warehouse prior to the arrival of inbound shipments
• Assists customers with purchasing fish or products and provide customer support as needed
• Ensure high volume items are replenished quickly

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with scheduling and accommodation of heavy outbound and inbound shipping and receiving days
• Assist with planning and executing acclimation of inbound shipments, holding and movement strategies through quarantine and main holding systems
• Assess daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance needs for both livestock and equipment and plan accordingly
• Oversee and ensure filtration equipment is operating at maximum efficiency and troubleshoot equipment failures and degradation
• Ensure cleanliness of the warehouse and livestock holding systems
• Keep detailed records of facility activities including data collection and inventory management

Skills:

- Proficient in understanding water quality and basic husbandry care.

- Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

- Experience in data collection and analysis to support operations.

- Capable of heavy lifting and physical work.

- Knowledge of plumbing systems for water circulation and distribution.

- Strong foundation in basic math skills for measurements and calculations.

- Previous experience working in the aquarium industry is a plus.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
