Block Island School is seeking a full-time long-term substitute school social worker to work with students in grades K-12. Candidate must hold or be eligible for Rhode Island School Social Worker certification. Clinical experience helpful. Position beginning mid to late May through the 2024-2025 school year.Roles & Responsibilities- Adhere to the policies of the New Shoreham School District, special education regulations and procedures, and complete relevant paperwork.- Conduct social histories for students and their families which may include observations and if appropriate data collection, interpretation, and analysis.- Prepare social history reports in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.- Participate in identifying at-risk students experiencing academic and behavioral difficulty, consult, design, and implement research-based interventions, and plan progress monitoring components of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions through the MTSS process; or demonstrate a willingness to learn.- Work closely with teachers and teams to create intervention plans, implement and monitor the plans and make data-based decisions regarding the effectiveness of the plan to meet the social/emotional needs of the students.- Provide individual and group counseling services in a variety of need areas, including social skills training and crisis intervention, to aid students social and academic adjustment and access to their education.- Support staff by collaborating, communicating, and seeking their input/feedback regarding student's status, as appropriate.- Plan, implement and participate as a member a district-level crisis response team.- Assist teams in conducting functional behavioral assessments and corresponding behavior support plans.- Participate as a member of the evaluation team when appropriate, by contributing to the eligibility determination consistent with district, federal, and state policies, procedures, and regulations- Participate as a member of the IEP team, collaborating on the development of measurable IEP goals based on the state SEL standards.- Learn new technology as needed; participate in the timely data input for Medicaid billing, the time studies for administrative Medicaid claiming as scheduled, and use the web-based IEP system.- Integrate technology into service delivery when appropriate.- Adhere to requirements, state and federal laws regarding students with disabilities, and professional ethics and standards of school social work.- Provide interventions in moments of emotional crisis for all students in the building.- Conduct risk assessments for suicidal and homicidal ideation and follow up with recommendations, as appropriate.- Refer students in need to outside agencies and/or for emergency evaluations.- Demonstrate leadership and work as part of a team to promote school-wide positive social/emotional programs, relationships, and culture in the school.- Confer and consult with teachers, staff, families, and outside agencies about strategies to facilitate the social and affective needs of students.
