New Skete Management, LLC oversees the operations of a Christian Monastic Community in Cambridge, NY. The Nuns of New Skete are famous for their world-class cheesecake and other baked goods, and the Monks of New Skete are renowned for their breeding of German Shepherds and training of all dog breeds. New Skete offers a relaxed and friendly work environment that is truly unique.
Due to an upcoming retirement, we are currently seeking an IT Director. In this high-impact role, you will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support for all New Skete networks, servers, computer workstations, internet access, voice communications systems, and related software. You will install, maintain and repair servers, workstations, network connectivity and a variety of related peripheral equipment. You will also be responsible for ensuring security over access to systems and data, and that data is adequately protected and archived to ensure availability of services for employees and monastics, totaling roughly 30 users. You may also occasionally assist with other administrative functions as needed.
This is an onsite role, though occasional remote work may be accommodated. This role is expected to monitor system performance and connectivity at all times, and be able to respond on days off to system malfunctions or other emergency needs. To be considered for the role, you should have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field. An Associate’s degree plus substantial technical related experience will be considered. You will also have at least three years of experience in PC support, network administration or help desk operations. Demonstrated proficiency with external and internal network connectivity technology and software, server and network administration and workstation-level support are required, and familiarity with various telephone, audio-visual systems, and online video conferencing systems is expected.
In addition, you will be able to work independently and manage multiple priorities and be able to sit and use computer equipment for several hours a day. You’ll also be expected to travel between two local New Skete sites as needed, so reliable transportation is a must. Finally, we expect the highest level of honesty, integrity and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of individual and company information at all times.
