The Engineering Manager plans, organizes, develops and directs the equipment design Engineering Team to meet company objectives for design of new equipment, improvement of existing equipment, innovation of manufacturing process, project management and backup support and troubleshooting for our Maintenance teams.
Position Responsibilities:
- Supervise, lead, mentor and develop the technical and soft skills of engineers within the department.
- Equipment Design (perform and oversee)
- Lead in determining form, fit, function and specification of all equipment design and components to meet manufacturing requirements/needs (presses, mobile equipment, heat treat equipment, machine tools, etc.).
- Responsible for directing research and development for new processes and equipment. Makes executive recommendations based upon function, budget, ROI, quality and safety.
- Lead Design of mechanical layout of systems/components (SolidWorks part & assembly modeling).
- Ensure that their and other’s designs meet/exceed respective codes: Analysis, validation, and due diligence is performed to ensure quality of design with plant and personnel safety.
- Design and/or selecting components for machinery, review and direct others (all mechanical and hydraulic).
- Size mechanical system and components, for safety and reliability, by performing comprehensive analysis (hand calculations, spreadsheets, & Finite Element Analysis).
- Material selection for designed components (specifying manufacturing process, mechanical properties, etc.).
- Review and detail all component and assembly drawings for manufacturing (tolerance, fits, dimensional analysis, GD&T, etc.).
- Quoting and procurement of components – put together and/or review all necessary documents required for manufacturing/assembly (bill of materials, hardware lists, budgets and costing, ROI, contract review, approval of payments, etc.).
- Follows all financial aspects of projects and is responsible for contract development and review, project budgets, costs, ROI calculations, and communicating project updates/timelines to all necessary parties.
- Direct production personnel on proper usage of equipment and develop/instruct proper maintenance practices of equipment. Facilitate formal and informal training.
- Work with Maintenance and Production teams on improvements of existing equipment (reliability engineering and productivity enhancements).
- Stay abreast with and analyze technology and develop business cases for investment when appropriate.
- Responsible for overseeing the startup of new and updated equipment. High Level Project Management - instruct outside contractors/vendors, mechanical engineers, and internal personnel for timely assembly of hydraulic & mechanical designs. Responsible for the alignment of mechanical deliverables to meet overall project goals.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Capital Equipment experience
- Professional Engineering license, and/or 15yrs experience in related field
- Proficient user of Finite Element Analysis (Structural linear FEA and CFD)
- Proficient in SolidWorks (Solid modeling) for parts, large assemblies, and drawings
- Strong skills in MS office
- Hands on individual proficient with troubleshooting skills on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Exhibits a high level of mechanical aptitude and creativity
- Expert in blueprint reading, tolerances, material selection, and manufacturing processes
- Excellent communication skills, organization, and detail oriented
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong history of leading and developing technical professionals.
- Strong negotiation skills.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
