Overview
The Housing Navigator plays a critical role in assisting individuals and families in securing stable housing. The Housing Navigator will work closely with various stakeholders, including property management, social services, and community organizations, to ensure clients have access to safe and affordable housing options.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify client needs and housing barriers.
- Assist clients in navigating the housing application process, including Section 8 and LIHTC programs.
- Develop individualized housing plans that align with client goals and preferences.
- Collaborate with property management teams to facilitate smooth transitions into housing.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in their housing journey.
- Negotiate lease terms and conditions on behalf of clients when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress using software such as OneSite or Yardi.
- Provide ongoing support and resources to clients post-housing placement to ensure stability.
- Work alongside addiction counseling professionals when necessary to address underlying issues affecting housing stability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in property management or knowledge of LIHTC regulations is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Section 8 housing programs and related laws is beneficial.
- Strong negotiation skills to advocate effectively for clients' needs.
- Proficiency in using property management software such as OneSite or Yardi is an advantage.
- Ability to apply motivational interviewing techniques in client interactions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on building rapport with diverse populations.
- Previous experience in social work or community outreach is preferred but not mandatory.
- A commitment to helping individuals overcome barriers to stable housing.
