What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park & Recreation Intern / Coordinator I position at New Ulm?
Assist Recreation Program Supervisor and other Park and Recreation staff in coordinating, implementing, and supervising a variety of programs, special events, and leagues. Supervise seasonal staff, facilities, and perform office duties related to work. Work schedule will vary, including days, evenings, and weekends. Hours are 35-40 hours per week. Internship is seasonal from mid-May through mid-August.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Plan, lead, implement, and evaluate a wide variety of programs, activities, and special events.
- Supervise, schedule, and evaluate seasonal staff.
- Develop marketing and promotion initiatives for the parks and recreation department.
- Perform departmental tasks, including writing reports, record keeping.
- Fill in as needed as a Recreation Center Cashier.
- Other duties as assigned or apparent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of recreation programs/activities offered by a municipal park and recreation department.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with staff and the general public.
- Ability to work with people of all ages and abilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to provide good customer service.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Currently enrolled as a student in good standing immediately prior to and/or following the period of employment, studying Parks and Recreation Administration or related field.
- Must be able to work the entire summer season

- Valid driver’s license.
Work is done in a variety of places, both indoors and outdoors, depending on the activity and/or task.
