JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Special Assets Officer, the Special Assets Analyst supports the Special Assets Officer with day-to-day management of Classified C&I and commercial real estate / multifamily loans and assists with reporting and litigation matters. Collaborates / works with Special Assets Officer while supporting efforts to preserve principal and prevent charge-offs. Maintains compliance with policy, procedure and lending regulations. Maintains accurate books and records with regards to all special assets and will help to ensure a consistent and effective effort to resolve delinquent loans and to restructure or exit classified credits as expeditiously as possible.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supports Special Assets Officers with implementing actions and workout strategies.
  • Assists the Special Assets Officer in maintain accurate records of loan grades, non-performing status, and specific allowance on substandard credits as dictated by policy. Includes compiling information for loan approval memos including financial analysis, relationship summaries and collateral overview.
  • Assists Special Assets Officer in timely periodic reporting to management, DLC, board, and regulators
  • Maintains credit and collateral file organization and transition to document retention and retrieval.
  • Coordinates with Finance and Loan Servicing on reporting of special assets
  • Systematically makes calls and sends reminders on special assets as instructed
  • Coordinates with attorneys and other advisors as to status of collections effort and valuation of underlying collateral.
  • Determines priorities for further credit review or customer contact. Monitors the portfolio for past dues, maturities, and other management reports as required or requested.
  • Submits appraisal order requests.
  • Adheres to applicable compliance / operational risk controls in accordance with regulatory standards and policies
  • Maintains New Valley control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Conducts market research and analysis to assist Special Assets Officers with Classified loan remediation efforts.
  • Assists with creation of relevant documents related to forecasting and other monthly / quarterly reporting requirements.
  • Run financial spreads and modeling as required.
  • Reviews and maintains recurrent status reports from outside counsel, detailing loan status in the legal process and making updates as required.
  • Completes self-audits for key processes to maintain files and assist in audit documentation requests.
  • Additional tasks include back up support functionality to Loan Servicing as well as the Commercial Loan Assistants.
  • Manage the servicing of non-performing loans to ensure they are properly reported per the Commercial Lending Policy and FDIC rules.
  • Monitor and report on loan delinquency and charge off activity.
  • Performs non-accrual, charge-off, OREO, SBA, RH, and IRS compliance (1098, 1099a & c) functions and all other special loan status changes and reporting to comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Completes compliance review including but not limited to, CRA, Government Monitoring, and Joint Credit.
  • Assists with the establishment of systems, procedures and reports to control, balance, and monitor the accuracy of the loan system database and general ledger accounts.
  • Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Education and Experience

  • Education level required : Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum experience required : 2 Years within the Workout / Special Assets field, preferably at an FDIC regulated institution.
  • Familiarity with various loan databases.
  • Skills and Experience

  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, and computer skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services a plus
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of credit policy, loan servicing, risk management and group underwriting requirements a plus
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, contracts, credit and financial documents as well as other legal documents as needed.
  • Underwriting experience including advanced commercial or specialty group relationship portfolio analysis
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services
  • Physical Requirements
