Minimum Requirements
- Must possess an Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing and a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the Kentucky Board of Nursing or a state Nursing Board in the “Compact State Agreement”.
- Must be able to pass criminal background and drug screening
- Must be able to Speak, Read and Write in English language.
Essential Functions
- Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing Operations, provides direct supervision and management of the Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses. Works to ensure optimal client care across shifts.
- Maintains staffing patterns needed to provide quality client care and to ensure staffing on a daily basis.
- Completes unit rounds multiple times per day, especially during medication administration times, evaluates nursing care provided by personal observations, review of records, reports, and other available data.
- Is a resource to the nursing staff and will support, assist, educate, and mentor nurses and others to perform at a satisfactory level.
- Encourages nursing staff to be good team players, to work collaboratively, and to utilize appropriate communication skills when interfacing with clients, guardians/families, and coworkers.
- Certifies all client admissions and readmissions to the facility according to the Kentucky Medicaid Long Term Care Regulations.
- Ensures nursing staff always have the tools to do their jobs to meet needs of the clients.
- Conducts unit meetings to ensure nursing staff are apprised of any policy or facility changes and to address any performance issues as a group. Ensures in-service training for facility staff is completed timely as directed. Mentors new nurses and new employees to facility Policies & Procedures.
- Initiates and completes nursing facility internal investigations involving nursing service personnel and reports to facility administration, as directed by AOD or DON.
- Completes required Nurse Supervisor documentation accurately & timely for shift report, audits, or other as assigned by DON.
- Ensures correct procedure for medication administration by completing observed med passes on unit nurses as assigned by DON.
- Ensures client physical assessments, and nursing treatment/procedures are completed as assigned. Reviews nursing documentation for completeness regularly.
- Pursues further education related to Developmental Disabilities, may choose to obtain certification (CDDN) in this specialty and/or become involved with State Nursing DD organization (KYDDNA).
Supervisory Responsibility
This position requires supervision of LPNs and RNs
