Recreational Therapist

New Wave Wellness offers Therapeutic Recreational Services throughout the state of Indiana. Therapeutic recreation, commonly known as recreational therapy, is another service offered here at New Wave Wellness. Recreational Therapy is a practice that utilizes recreational and other activity-based therapies to meet the identified needs of people with health and/or functional disabilities. A therapeutic service that aims to restore, remediate, and rehabilitate a person’s level of functioning and independence in life and daily activities. New Wave Wellness strives to promote health and wellbeing, and to lessen or remove activity constraints and restrictions to participation in life circumstances.  Our Recreational Therapists (RTs) will design an individualized care plan to assist our clients not only to improve their capacity to adapt to their new circumstances, but also improves their quality of life by facilitating social interaction and allowing them to take part in enjoyable activities. 

Our RTs will collaborate with individuals to help them overcome emotional difficulties, such as sadness or anxiety, and to become more active members of society. Individuals that engage with New Wave Wellness learn to be better advocates for their own health. Together we strive to build independence, productivity, well-being, and quality of life. Our RTs allow New Wave Wellness to enhance the lives of our Individuals Members of the New Wave Wellness community are provided with the knowledge and training necessary to build the persuasive advocacy skills essential to advocate for their own health. Through participation in therapeutic activities, it is our objective to increase the clients’ sense of productivity, general health, and pleasure.

Minimal Requirements:

Education:

1.  Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy or therapeutic recreation

2. Ability to provide official transcripts and diploma

3.  Currently maintain Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential obtained through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)

HR File:

1. Must be able to complete background checks without any issues or concerns reported

2. Must possess an active driver's license, vehicle registration and insurance

3. Must be able to obtain personal liability insurance 

Clientele: 

1. Ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities

2. Ability to work with veterans and military population

3. Ability to work in groups with colleagues as needed.

4. Ability to take on an intern, as needed. 

5. Must be able/willing to transport clients in your vehicle 

Job Duties: 

1. Ability to work on your own as well as take direction from others

2.Must complete the client Assessment/s and Treatment Plan/s with in 45 days of initial client contact

3. Ability to think outside of the box to best advocate for your client's needs and independence

4. Must complete paperwork in a timely manner. 

5. Ability to attend a once-a-month virtual contractor/company meeting. 

6. Complete training for staff and family members on client

7. Attend client meetings as scheduled

8. Must be able to effectively communicate with your client, their team members and New Wave Wellness colleagues. 

9. Must be able to obtain valid CPR/1st Aid Training and obtain a negative TB test.
