JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for manufacturing oversight of a large function, or multiple functions, or a site within New Way Trucks manufacturing. They work with supervisors to hold team members accountable for efficiency, quality, safety and compliance with the company policy. They have a high level of technical knowledge, drive innovation and change, and produce desired results using metrics. This position reports to a senior level production VP/Director and is responsible for manufacturing in areas of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide a safe work environment and assure that team members follow safe work practices.
- Plans effective manufacturing lines and executes change as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity and assist with implementation of changes
- Manager is a role model for the department by practicing employee engagement while having a respectful and positive attitude
- Directs efforts of supervisors, ensuring all work is coordinated, downtime is minimized, and product meets established quality standards.
- Works to develop procedures and techniques to reduce process variation and manufacturing delays, while increasing productivity
- Reviews headcount requests, participates in hiring process and creates expectations working with supervisors
- Works at a high level across the company using company perspective, not just the area of responsibility
- Manages performance and works with HR in situations requiring disciplinary process
- Communicate with other departments to assure proper materials and equipment are provided for the team members
- Manages labor to budget
- Delegates as necessary to develop and train supervisors
- Coordinates production schedule with support departments and resolves manufacturing problems related to methods, tools, materials, and manpower.
- Communicate expectations and challenges to supervisors
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Experience in leadership role required
· Strong communication skills with all levels of the organization
· Knowledge of processes and equipment
· Ability to plan and implement changes
· Math skills including good understanding of fractions and angles
· Financial knowledge to understand and make decisions that can impact profitability
· Ability to read blueprint drawings and cut lists
· Computer skills including ability to use and create word documents, spread sheets as well as utilize Payroll, and Enterprise Resource Planning software
This is a full-time exempt position with on-site presence based on the manufacturing schedule. This position is responsible for assuring that there is leadership presence when hourly employees are in the plant working.
