The prestigious New York Athletic Club located in Pelham Manor, NY, Westchester County, is seeking for full-time seasonal lifeguards.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under direction, supervises and services the aquatic facility; ensures overall safety of all pool patrons; enforces the rules set forth by the Club; assists in maintaining cleanliness.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical of this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
1. Ensures overall safety of patrons; ensures implementation of all policies and procedures.
2. Tests and maintains chemical readings.
3. Records chemical readings.
4. Assist in maintaining proper par levels of chemicals and amenities.
5. Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner. These may include but not limited to answering phones, checking people in, and providing information regarding the pool and overall facility.
6. Resolves complaints in a timely and efficient manner.
7. Maintains pool cleanliness. Must be willing to perform pool maintenance and cleanliness duties.
8. Implements emergency procedure in times of need.
9. Responds to potential unsafe conditions and potential hazards.
10. Maintains current lifeguard certifications. Performs lifeguard duties, as necessary.
11. Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
1. Basic knowledge of operations of a swimming pool.
2. Knowledge of basic public relations.
3. Holds appropriate certifications.
4. Knowledge of water safety and emergency response including first aid, AED, and CPR.
5. Ability to supervise the operations of an aquatic facility.
6. Ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency.
7. Ability to enforce rules and regulations.
8. Ability to swim with endurance and proficiency at a level necessary to performed assigned duties.
9. Ability to lift a victim from the pool.
10. Ability to respond to an emergency and provide first aid, AED, and CPR as necessary.
11. Ability to exercise sound judgement.
12. Ability to respond to requests from membership.
13. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
14. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
15. Must work weekends and summer holidays.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
1. Possession of valid CPR, first aid and lifeguard certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Hearing: Incumbents must be able to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Environment: Incumbents are required to work in an outdoor pool setting which may be hazy, hot, humid or raining. Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, harsh or toxic substances and vapors. Incumbents must be able to work in water. Incumbents may be required to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
