Program Overview:
NYCID collaborates with interested NYC schools and develops, customizes, and implements self-sustaining After School programs. Our After School programs can be operated in any elementary, middle, or high school. We work collaboratively with schools to customize our programs to meet the needs of the school and its community. Our goal is to provide exposure to subjects that students will not normally have the opportunity to experience outside of the school environment. Our programs can include opportunities for youth to learn conflict resolution, anger management, and new decision-making techniques. We approach our work with a youth development framework and give our undivided attention and commitment to both our students and their families.
SONYC Program
SONYC Programs are funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and are structured like clubs to offer young people choice in how they spend their time. This After School program is for students in middle school. SONYC offers a wide range of activities such as Dance and Music, Sports and Fitness, Literacy, Art, Culinary Arts, and Fashion and Design. There is also a strong focus on STEM and Leadership activities.
General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of the program, the After School Activity Specialist will implement curriculum for specific structured activities using successful practice of differentiated teaching strategies. The After School Program Activity Specialist must supervise program participants to ensure that appropriate behavior is exhibited at all times in a safe environment. This individual may implement lesson plans for each After School activity on topics involving STEM, Leadership, Literacy, and Art, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate must be working towards a college degree and have experience implementing lesson plans for youth .

Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work closely with Program Director to understand program vision, and to develop and implement strategies to achieve program goals
- Plan, organize, develop, and implement program activities in areas such as, but not limited to youth enrichment, leadership development, and physical activity
- Supervise youth and monitor behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness
- Work closely with students to encourage movement, creativity,and the development of specific skills
- Develop/Implement lesson plans pertaining to specific activities including, but not limited to, STEM, Leadership, Literacy, Sports and Art
- Provide opportunities for participants to showcase their progress, accomplishments, projects, etc.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents
- Maintain student attendance sign-in sheets
- As necessary, attend meetings and training workshops
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of conflict resolution and/or mediation practices
- Experience in developing effective lesson plans to ensure student learning and participation
- Expertise in adapting lessons so that all students learn optimally
- Ability to control student behaviors and ensure a productive environment to make learning fun
- Skilled at providing a setting for youth to explore their interests and creativity
- Managerial ability to execute program requirements
- Deft supervisory skills and a first rate ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism
