The David H. Koch Theater (DHKT) at Lincoln Center opened in April 1964 as the New York State Theater. The theater was designed by the renowned architect Philip Johnson, built with funds from the State of New York, and given to the City of New York as a home for performing arts organizations. Today, the theater is home to the New York City Ballet (NYCB) as well as a growing number of national and international touring performing arts groups.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Production (ADP) reports to both the Director of Production at the New York City Ballet (NYCB) and the Managing Director of the David H. Koch Theater (DHKT). The ADP’s major responsibilities fall into two broad areas: managing production elements for DHKT rental engagements and NYCB special projects and events. Additionally, the ADP supervises the DHKT Technical Director.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for effective intake and communication of event information, from initial planning of show through final settlement.
- Provides technical and production coordination to theater rentals in all aspects of the engagement.
- Understands and administers IATSE, Wardrobe, and Teamsters contracts.
- Provides rehearsal and performance coverage for rentals and event. Must work flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays as necessary.
- Generates and maintains complete file of paperwork (including labor estimates, crew schedules, drawings, etc.).
- Reviews, approves, and submits weekly IASTE payroll.
- Maintains records for IATSE sick leave, vacation, and other benefits.
- Assists with identifying long and short-term maintenance projects and supervise projects.
- Maintains venue technical specifications and drawings.
- Processes and codes vendor invoices for timely remittance.
- Monitors compliance of OSHA regulations and MSDS recordkeeping procedures by theater personnel.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical theater or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in Production Management in a similar environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- A strong technical background with a depth of understanding in all aspects of theater production, including theatrical lighting, stage rigging and audio.
- Experience with Local One collective bargaining agreements.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures of safety and emergency preparedness, able to qualify for Fire Warden Certification.
- Experience with MS Office and Vectorworks software.
- The ability to effectively interact with, and clearly communicate information to a wide range of persons both within and outside the organization.
- Experience with multi-disciplinary art forms preferred, i.e. opera, dance, international organizations, and corporate events.
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt, management position. Work hours vary according to the event schedule and may include weekends, holidays, and other scheduled work periods as necessary.
