Middle School Humanities ICT Teacher (2025-26 school year)

New York City Charter School
New York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 4/3/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/3/2025
School Overview:
NYC Charter School of the Arts (CSA) is an arts-integrated charter school located in the financial district of Manhattan. Currently, in its 8th year of operation, we are looking for a middle school Humanities teacher to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. The mission of CSA is to inspire a diverse community of young people to engage with the arts as a pathway to rich and rigorous academic scholarship and a creative, purposeful life. We accomplish this as a school community through three domains: Create, Learn & Thrive.

Job Summary
As a midyear replacement, starting in midOctober 2024, as a Humanities ICT teacher you will be in charge of teaching a full-time teacher course load of four classes, using, scaffolding and modifying the ELA and History curriculum that has been established for that grade. You will work in coordination with the other members of the Special Education department to support the overall academic growth of our IEP and struggling students. You will also participate in grade-level meetings and contribute in writing and in person for the IEP students on your caseload.

As an arts-integrated school, artistic practice, content and appreciation is embedded in academic curriculum, and staff are expected to work towards the integration of artistic practice. In addition to your academic responsibilities, you will work closely with the socio-emotional learning team to implement an “advisory” curriculum to a small group of students daily.

CSA believes in the importance of being a diverse, equitable and inclusive organization. We are committed to building a talented team that reflects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students. As an equal opportunity employer, we hire without consideration to race, religion, creed, color, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status or disability.

CSA offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement curricula and activities to meet Common Core-aligned grade level standards for your ELA and History classes;

  • Modify and provide testing accommodations for formative assessments that measure progress toward academic standards;

  • Furnish unit and lesson plans for yours on time to your Instructional leader;

  • Collect and regularly use formative, summative, and interim assessment data to adjust instruction, group students, and draft teacher input reports for IEP meetings;

  • Serve as lead case manager for a set number of students with special needs, taking the lead on gathering data in preparation for their IEP meeting, working with the CSE before, during, and after the meeting to ensure that each IEP reflects the needs of the student;

  • Assess and document attendance and grades in Alma, the student database in a timely manner as per established deadlines;

  • Participate in professional learning communities;

  • Coplan, manage, and maintain a positive culture and climate in "Home" (homeroom), leveraging relationships to promote positive academic experiences and mindful, effective communication;

  • With support, deliver a socioemotional curriculum to a group of ‘advisees’;

  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development to integrate the arts and interdisciplinary learning across grade levels. Collaborate with colleagues to infuse artistic practice and the creative process into the planning and executing of each lesson;

  • Integrate visual and performing arts into lessons and units of study;

  • Assist students in creation of Digital Portfolios;

  • Chaperone field trips;

  • Meet weekly with the Head of the Special Education Department to improve pedagogical practice;

  • Meet weekly with your grade team to manage grade-level needs;

  • Fulfill varied school needs, including elevator, hall, and lunch duties;

  • Provide written and in-person input as requested by the Special Education Team;

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree preferred);

  • Valid NY State Teaching License;

  • 2-3 years or more teaching experience; Middle School preferred;

  • Strong pedagogical and content knowledge in Humanities;

  • Background experience in implementation of ELA Common Core State Standards;

  • Desire to grow as a professional educator;

  • Exceptional ability to participate in community learning;

  • Commitment to the values and mission of NYC Charter School of the Arts.
