Title:Dance Activity Specialist, After-School Program
Basic Function: Facilitate implementation of program activities for a group of elementary school-aged after-school program participants while creating a nurturing environment that fosters the creativity and educational advancement of the children.
Location: 2400 Marion Avenue, Bronx, NY 10458 (PS85)
Hours: Part-time: 10 hours per week (Monday to Friday 3:30 pm-5:30 pm)
Program Description:The Mission Society’s Power Academy is an after-school program dedicated to cultivating the personal growth and educational advancement of all Kinder to 5th graders participants. With a curriculum focused on academic enrichment, community service, cultural enrichment, the arts, recreation, and character education, the Power Academy will reinforce school-day learning in a safe and healthy environment. (This position is Fully In-Person)
Principal Responsibilities:
· Create a supportive and nurturing group environment.
· Ensure the safety of all children.
· Teach a variety of dance styles and routines to groups of children according to the program schedule.
· Develop and implement lesson plans.
· Prepare materials and hand-outs for lessons.
· Create and coordinate student showcases related to dance.
· Attend team and group supervision meetings.
· Attend professional development trainings as required by the agency and program contract.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Minimum Associate’s Degree in a related field or two years of experience working with students (elementary or middle-school aged) required.
· Must have experience teaching dance to children in a school or after-school setting.
· Ability to teach a wide range of dance styles is required.
· Must have strong interest in working with children.
· Must have the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of program and school staff.
· Must have excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and organizational.
· Experience overseeing and managing a group of young people.
· Experience creating lesson plans preferred.

Salary & Benefits: Hourly wage of $30.00 per hour.
