The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The Legal Bureau's Body-Worn Camera Unit handles requests for footage from various governmental agencies, Freedom of Information Law requests as well as matters related to criminal and civil discovery. Under this posting, media service technicians will be assigned to the Legal Bureau's Body Worn Camera Unit to search NYPD applications to locate responsive footage for requests submitted by the various agencies mentioned above. This search includes tagging all responsive footage, creating a case to share the footage as well as completing necessary paperwork documenting this search. Media service technicians will also be assigned Freedom of Information Law requests where they will be asked to search for and locate footage responsive to any given request as well as to review said footage for necessary redactions, or in certain cases will receive specific notations on redactions that need to be made. In either scenario, the technicians will be responsible for applying appropriate redactions and edits to such footage in accordance with all applicable laws and Department policies as well as download and make copies of responsive footage in any given case to ensure its proper production.
