The SCA's Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City's approximately 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects.
Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500 school portfolio as well as renovation work to existing schools. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

Job Description Summary
The Engineer - Level A, B or C reports to a Managing Engineer or Architect, or higher assignment level Engineer or Architect and is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.

Responsibilities include :
Engineer - A
- Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed.
- Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects.
- Perform and / or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies.
- May function as a project leader reporting to an Engineer / Architect B or Engineer / Architect C, Managing Architect, Managing Engineer, or Director to plan and coordinate work with other Engineers and Architects.
- May direct Associate Engineers / Architects and Architectural / Engineering Technicians, and / or Technical Inspectors working on several less complex design and construction projects, such as new schools, modernizations, additions, leased space, and CIP projects.
- Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers / architects.
- Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project.
- Conduct site observations.
- Prepare field reports.
- Supervise the review of contractor's submittals.
- Review reports.
- Perform design review of work for engineering portions of multiple projects.
- Perform review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or Line Projects.
- Maintain and develops general understanding of architectural and engineering principles.
- May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.
- Perform related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Level A requires : A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer.
Level B requires : A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader
Level C requires : A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.
Current New York State Professional Engineer license must be maintained for the duration of employment for all levels.
Minimum Qualifications

Appointment Rate : $99,422.00 - $140,462.00
Incumbent Rate : $114,335.00 - $ $161,531.00
Subject to the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the appointment rate for any newly hired employee, or employees with less than two years of active City or SCA service, shall be 15% less than the applicable incumbent rate or step.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning : a minimum of four years of experience specializing in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work; this can be any combination of pre-licensure and post licensure work; post-licensure work is not required. Plumbing and Drainage : a minimum of four years of experience specializing in plumbing and drainage work; this can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work; post-licensure work is not required. Structural : a minimum of four years of experience specializing in structural work; this can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work; post-licensure work is not required.
