What are the responsibilities and job description for the Copy Editor / Proofreader position at New York State Bar Association?
The New York State Bar Association, a nonprofit professional organization located in Albany, NY, seeks a part-time copy editor/proofreader to join its Publications Department. The position is responsible for reviewing and providing copyediting and proofreading support for legal reference books/eBooks, newsletters, substantive reports, advertisements and additional projects as required.
A bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism or related field is required. A minimum of two (2) years of print and online editorial experience; a working knowledge of various style guides, including AP or Chicago Manual of Style; and strong technological proficiency including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, LexisNexis/Westlaw, Adobe Framemaker, XML/HTML, and content management systems are also required.
The successful candidate will have an excellent eye for detail and copyedit for grammar, syntax, clarity, style and consistency. This position requires excellent editing, writing and proofreading skills; strong organizational skills; experience managing multiple projects; and demonstrated success at working independently as well as with a team.
