Overview
NYS DOCCS Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is seeking qualified candidates to serve as an Investigator in one of its five divisions highlighted below.
Public Integrity Division (PID) investigates a wide range of allegations of violations of the Department's policies and criminal laws including staff misconduct, particularly physical and sexual abuse of incarcerated individuals, unauthorized relationships and various forms of harassment to name a few.
Criminal Investigations Division (CID) investigates violent acts resulting in serious injury or death, threats of violence, gun and drug distribution and possession connected to NYS DOCCS. CID also participates in several task forces and intelligence centers.
The Canine Division has specially trained canines to detect dangerous drugs and electronic contraband and prevent the same from being smuggled into correctional facilities.
The Fugitive Investigations Division (FID) specializes in apprehensions of NYS DOCCS fugitives.
Intake, Training, and Analysis Division is responsible for processing complaints, training OSI staff and performing analysis of data to support OSI investigations and to proactively identify potential risks.
Requirements:
- Investigators are responsible for conducting investigations pertaining to the subject matter of the assigned division within their geographic area. Travel is required.
- Required to manage their own caseload and independently conduct investigative activities and work well with superiors, peers, facility staff and all others.
- Work with other investigators on special operations, such as inspections, absconder details and monitoring operations.
- Appropriate licensure and certifications, including being or becoming a peace officer qualified to carry a firearm, are also required.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include two years' investigative, law enforcement or public safety experience.
- Or a two year associate degree or 60 college-level credits, preferably with a focus on criminal justice, law, forensics, or other relevant course of study.
- Must possess at a minimum knowledge of the applicable laws, the highest level integrity and ethics, fairness, character, judgment, attitude and respect for and ability to work with others inside and outside OSI.
