The Bureau of Flood Protection and Dam Safety (BFPDS) is part of the Division of Water (DOW). BFPDS is responsible for implementing several programs, maintenance and oversight of Flood Protection Projects, floodplain management, coastal erosion hazard areas, and dam safety and permitting.
An Assistant Engineer or Engineer Trainee is required to support the Regional Flood Control Engineer (RFCE) in performing the following duties and responsibilities:
1) review conduit video inspections;
2) provide support for documenting and resolving encroachments on NYS Flood Control lands;
3) provide support for inspection and maintenance of flood control projects including flood control structures and water channel improvements;
4) participate in volunteer flood patroller trainings and Army Corps of Engineers inspections and site visits;
5) review Flood Control Land Use permit applications and prepare permits; perform construction documentation and reporting;
6) conduct dam safety site visits, inspections and reporting;
7) In the event of a flooding event emergency, assist with other DOW needs as appropriate and available;
8) Abide by all critical site safety protocols at construction sites, dams, and waterways
