This is the perfect summer job for a recent high school graduate looking to get into the environmental or culinary field! Spend your summer working for NYS DEC Environmental Education Camps! DEC Summer camps have four beautiful locations across NYS: Camp Colby (Saranac Lake), Camp Pack Forest (Warrensburg), Camp DeBruce (Livingston Manor), and Camp Rushford (Caneadea).
Position Summary:
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation seeks Camp Aides (CA1) for four residential Environmental Education Camps. All four camps cater to campers in two age groups at a time: 11-13 years old or and 14-17 years old. Campers arrive on Sunday afternoon and leave on Friday at 4:30 PM.
Camp Aides assist Camp Directors, Counselors, and Kitchen staff with accomplishing tasks needed for the daily operation of the camp program and facility. Camp Aide 1s (CA1s) are paid $15.97 for 40 hours per week, plus room and board, if desired, for the entire 10 week season. Position runs mid-June to mid-August.
Position Responsibilities:
Specific duties include but not limited to:
- Cleanup of dishes, pots, pans, kitchen and dining hall after each meal;
- Supervise volunteers in the cleanup of dishes, pots, pans, kitchen and dining hall;
- Assist in education and recreation activities including outdoor skills courses, hunter safety and swimming;
- Participate in evening activities including overnight camp outs, night walks, campfires and special programs as time allows.
- Assist with the supervision of the campers in cabins, lessons and out of camp activities.
- Assist with the Education component of the program through preparing materials, props, and outdoor gear to be used by the counselors and director staff.
Position Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age by start date (June 2025).
- Must be High School Graduate or have GRE equivalent by start date (June 2025).
- Must have and maintain a current driver's license by start date (June 2025).
- Must be certified in an approved CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification & must be in its first year by start date (June 2025).
- Additional certifications in Waterfront Lifeguarding and other Department of Health approved Camp Certifications are not required but are preferred.
