The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is hiring a Park and Recreation Aide 5 for North/South Lake Campground in Haines Falls, New York. This is a seasonal position that runs from May through October 2025.
The primary focus of this maintenance position is to diagnose and repair showers, sinks, toilets, water heaters, and lift station pumps. Additionally, landscaping tasks such as mowing, string trimming, and clearing ditches may be assigned. A successful candidate will be able to perform maintenance work effectively and safely in a variety of outdoor weather conditions, demonstrate an attentiveness to detailed projects and possess critical thinking skills for problem solving project components.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have valid driver's license and be able to work assigned shifts. Must be punctual, reporting for work on time.
- Should expect to work all weekends and holidays during period of employment.
- Basic plumbing, carpentry, and electric skills required.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on toilets, sinks, and water heaters.
- Must be able, where applicable, to do manual work in park such as picking up litter, raking, pushing lawnmowers, and cleaning comfort stations, rest rooms and buildings. Extra physical work may be required such as aiding in removing brush and firewood and/or moving canoes and rowboats.
- Must have experience operating landscaping power equipment, preferably a zero-turn mower.
- Must be able to communicate with others and accept direction. All tasks are to be conducted in a safe manner, with any injuries/illnesses reported immediately to supervisor.
- Must be even tempered and capable of communicating with the public. Provide patrons with information regarding park facilities and use.
