Duties Description
As a Senior Employment Security Clerk in the Unemployment Insurance Division, your duties would include any of the following: communication with claimants, employers, and Department staff to resolve discrepancies and answer questions; entering, updating and retrieving information from systems for processing unemployment insurance benefits; processing employer and benefit documents, including those involved in the hearing process; reviewing ledgers and making computations to credit charges; processing employer registration forms and addressing employer rate inquiries; examining NYS-45 returns for any discrepancies and determining employer liability; reviewing and preparing documents for high speed scanning; and other clerical duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if they meet the below NY HELPS minimum qualifications.
NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications:
60 or more college semester credit hours and one year of full-time work experience in customer service; or a high school diploma or GED and two years of full-time work experience, one year of which must be in customer service.
Examples of Non-Qualifying Experience include receptionist, data entry clerk, cashier, retail clerk, bartender, wait staff, hair stylist, bus driver, or home health aide, etc.

One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 07 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service.
70.4 Transfer Qualifications:
One year of permanent or contingent-permanent service as a Grade 07 or higher and a passing score on the Senior Employment Security Clerk exam. Note: Candidates must not have failed the most recent examination for this title.
