New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that :

Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.

Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

The Director of Events Management is responsible for overseeing the development, production, and execution of corporate-hosted and supported events from ideation and proposal to delivery, ensuring event execution is on time and within budget. As a contributing member of the Corporate Communications, Marketing, and Events teams, the Director works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, professional events within a comprehensive event strategy that positions the organization to effectively promote its mission and key initiates to drive awareness toward program milestones and success.

Primary Responsibilities

Oversee the management and execution of all aspects involved in delivering high-quality in-person, hybrid, and virtual events from concept to finish, including sourcing venues, negotiating contracts, managing suppliers, coordinating communications, supporting attendees and VIPs, developing and scheduling content and speakers, on-site event management, and post-event feedback and closeout.

Lead in relaying information between senior leadership, Communications, Marketing, and Events team, serving as Team Lead for the Events team.

Partner with executive leadership to conceptualize, plan, and execute employee-focused and business unit events.

Identify and manage requirements and expectations of project teams, stakeholders, suppliers, and professional services teams for each event.

Anticipate, identify, and assess risks to inform and develop a mitigation strategy within the planning process, to allow for the ability to quickly and effectively pivot when necessary.

Develop and execute post-event debriefs to review success, opportunities for improvement, and lessons learned to support the work toward continuous improvement.

Serve as a thought leader within NYSERDA, stay current with developments in events and industry-related trends and technologies.

A demonstrated record of success in driving improvements in service operations and successfully delivering services within complex business or government operating environments.

Self-starter who acts independently and can handle diverse tasks quickly and accurately within a high-performance environment.

Brainstorm, develop, and implement concepts and themes for events.

Build, foster and leverage industry relationships and networks to facilitate event planning success.

Prepare and manage budgets and expenses; process and approve contracts and invoices.

Develop and implement standards, policies, and procedures.

Facilitate the recruitment and coordination of staff for events.

Manage the procurement of event equipment and materials.

Direct staff and manage schedules for effective event support and coordination.

Responsible for the supervision of a team and the ability to perform all managerial and supervisory responsibilities with demonstrated experience fostering respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion across the workforce.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years’ experience in fast-paced environments including 6 years in a supervisory role.

Strong leadership and problem-solving ability, an action bias, and experience leading direct reports and colleagues toward measurable outcomes.

50% travel is required for onsite event management of key events as required.

Additional Qualifications

Master’s degree and 8 years’ experience preferred including 6 years in a supervisory role.

Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time during events.

Must be able to lift a maximum of 25 pounds at times.

Must be able to work a variety of hours to accommodate events.
