Park and Recreation Aide 2 (Two Positions Available)

Parks and Recreation
Under the direction of the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor, SG-18 or designee, the incumbent will be assigned to the Regional Trails Crew. The incumbent will be required to assist with a wide range of trail construction and maintenance tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- General trail corridor clearing and maintenance.
- Assist with retaining wall construction and maintenance.
- Assist with installation and maintenance of erosion control measures.
- Assist with trail bridge and boardwalk maintenance.
- Assist with trail surfacing installation and maintenance.
- Assist with trail drainage system installation and maintenance.
- Assist with trail mapping, including the operation of GPS mapping tools and software.
- Ensure trail maps, signage, and markers are installed, updated, and visible.
- Operate assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles to meet project needs.
- Perform periodic maintenance on tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions.
- Prepare written reports on daily activities, trail conditions, and other required written records.
- Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must have the ability to read and understand instructions, including written material.
- Must successfully complete training courses for operation of assigned departmental equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to: Chainsaw, UTV/ATV, woodchipper, tractor, mini excavator, Etc.
- Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with equipment operation, trail maintenance activities, and a working knowledge of associated hand
This is a seasonal position from May through October.

State parks and historic sites are staffed by a core of permanent employees who work year-round to maintain these precious resources. During the peak of our operating season (May through September) the permanent staff is supplemented by several thousand seasonal employees who work to ensure that our patrons have a positive and safe experience when visiting our sites.
