The Office of the New York State Attorney General is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Chief Investigator
position. Candidates should be hard-working, motivated, and committed to public service on behalf of the people of
the State of New York. The Organized Crime Task Force has offices located in Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, and White
Plains. The position will be filled in Albany.
primary responsibility is to provide general management, direction, and control for the Unit. OCTF is responsible for
investigating and prosecuting multi-county, multi-state, and multi-national organized criminal activities occurring within
New York State. OCTF specializes in identifying emerging and existing organized crime enterprises and, through a broad
array of civil and criminal enforcement techniques, seeks to undermine their structure, influence, and presence within
the State. Most of its cases involve long-term investigations, conducted in partnership with local, state, and federal law
enforcement agencies, into crimes like narcotics trafficking, loan sharking, gambling, racketeering and money
laundering.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have at least ten years of law enforcement experience, eight of which must have been in a supervisory
- Current NYS basic police school certification.
- Must have the ability to drive a vehicle and possess a valid NYS driver’s license.
- The Public Officer’s Law requires that police officers at the OAG be citizens of the United States and reside in
- Superior written and oral communications skills, demonstrated cross-cultural competency.
- Experience leading and directing complex investigations.
- Experience managing large (over 25 sworn staff) and complex teams of detectives.
- Experience conducting surveillance and undercover operations.
- Advanced proficiency using various law enforcement investigative databases and Microsoft computer
- Experience with confidential informants.
- Experience conducting narcotics operations.
- Experience interacting, experience with ADACS and ACISS.
- Coordinating and working with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and having regional law
enforcement contacts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice or an applicable discipline.
- Fluency in a second language.
- Senior level law enforcement management experience.
The annual salary for this position is $136,247. Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on
evenings and weekends and requires 24/7 availability. This position is in the exempt class, and incumbents serve at
the pleasure of the Attorney General.
