Detective Specialist: Special Operations Unit - Syracuse
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking qualified candidates for a Detective Specialist position located in
Syracuse. Candidates should be hard-working, motivated and committed to public service on behalf of the people of the
State of New York.
Duties:
Participate with criminal investigators and other law enforcement officers in active criminal investigations
and apply advanced investigative techniques to gather evidence and intelligence that facilitate the prosecution of
violations of criminal laws.
Provide extensive expertise in the planning and execution of the electronic surveillance phase of major
investigative and enforcement operations.
Provide investigative support for complex internet investigations.
Serve on high-risk special operations teams.
Make covert court-ordered entry onto/into the property of targets of criminal investigations to install equipment to
collect evidence.
Provide training and guidance to other law enforcement officers engaged in electronic surveillance and
investigative work, assuring mission requirements are fulfilled.
The qualifications for this position are: At least two years of related field experience in computer network
administration and support; ability to install and maintain computer equipment, software and computer peripherals. You
may be asked to demonstrate proficiency in computer technologies including, but not limited to, diagnosing network
problems, desktop support and software installation.
You should have a working knowledge in the use, instruction, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and integration of
the full range of electronic surveillance devices including, but not limited to, telephone, video, audio, tracking, Radio
Frequency (RF) technologies and associated surveillance systems.
You should also have experience conducting criminal investigations and knowledge of the laws governing eavesdropping
and search warrants.

Qualifications in addition to those listed above:
Candidate must have a current NYS basic police school certification or have the ability to successfully complete
police academy training.
Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and have the ability to drive a motor vehicle.
The Public Officer’s Law requires that police officers at the OAG be citizens of the United States and reside in New
York State.
This position is within a team environment that works throughout the State of New York. Individuals must be able
to work independently and as a team player, be of high moral character and be able to adapt to changing
environments quickly.
Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on evenings and weekends and requires 24/7
availability. This position is in the exempt class, and incumbents serve at the pleasure of the Attorney General. The Hire
Rate for this position is $84,980.
