The Office of the Attorney General is seeking qualified candidates for a Detective Supervisor position located in the
Major Investigations Unit in New York City. Candidates should be hard-working, motivated, and committed to public
service on behalf of the people of the State of New York.
and in their absence, the Detective Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision of investigatory personnel who
conduct a variety of criminal investigations. The Detective Supervisor will provide the first level of review on
administrative matters such as time and attendance, expense accounts, state vehicle usage and inspection,
training, and overtime approval for unit members, as well as evaluating the performance of the detectives on a
quarterly and annual basis assigned to the unit and taking appropriate remedies. The Supervisor will also oversee
and direct criminal investigations, case management, staff assignments and will confer with the Commanding
Officer and Executive Officer on case matters, as well as personnel issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have a current NYS basic police academy certification approved by DCJS or the ability to successfully
- At least 10 years of law enforcement experience.
- Experience conducting criminal investigations.
- Experience conducting undercover surveillance and operations utilizing electronic recording devices.
- Excellent interview skills.
- Experience working on a task force.
- Established contacts within the law enforcement community in the greater Capital District.
- Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and have the ability to drive a motor vehicle.
- The Public Officer’s Law requires that police officers at the OAG be citizens of the United States and reside in New
York State.
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Police1 Leadership Training Course completion.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
The annual salary for this position is $105,318. Appointments in New York City receive an additional $4,000 location pay.
Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on evenings and weekends and requires 24/7
availability. This position is in the exempt class, and incumbents serve at the pleasure of the Attorney General.
