Duties Description
Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor or designee, the incumbent will be assigned to the Regional Plumbing Crew. The incumbent will be required to assist journey-level staff with plumbing repairs/maintenance across the Allegany Region. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Two years of full-time experience* in plumbing and/or steamfitting work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course in the plumbing and/or steam fitting trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses in plumbing or steam fitting at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor or designee, the incumbent will be assigned to the Regional Plumbing Crew. The incumbent will be required to assist journey-level staff with plumbing repairs/maintenance across the Allegany Region. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Replace and repair water, sewer, natural gas, and propane supply lines.
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures.
- Cut, fit, and thread pipe.
- Diagnose and repair drain lines.
- Assist with projects that involve excavation and confined space entry.
- Perform general labor tasks as required.
- Assist in the operation and testing of potable water supplies, and wastewater treatment systems.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned hand and power tools to ensure they are in good working order and in compliance with applicable codes.
- Maintain daily activity reports, along with other required written records.
Two years of full-time experience* in plumbing and/or steamfitting work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course in the plumbing and/or steam fitting trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses in plumbing or steam fitting at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
- Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.
- If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or be able to obtain a Class B Driver’s License within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.***
- Must possess or obtain a valid Grade 1A Wastewater Operators Certification within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
- Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including confined space entry.
- Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting.
- Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug, and alcohol testing.
