Trailside Museums and Zoo is a 30-acre site located within Bear Mountain State Park. This location includes 15 outdoor animal exhibits, 5 stone buildings, 4 regional nature museum buildings, a stone residential house, 1 mile of paved trail, a historical Revolutionary War site, and a forested area. The facility has native plant species gardens among other landscaping features.
Duties
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager at Trailside Museums and Zoo, the selected candidate will perform duties related to maintenance and repair of the grounds and buildings. This position also involves working in a zoo environment where animals are present. Duties include, but are not limited to:

This position has the option to join the NYS Employees’ Retirement System and may be eligible for health insurance, dental

Duties
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager at Trailside Museums and Zoo, the selected candidate will perform duties related to maintenance and repair of the grounds and buildings. This position also involves working in a zoo environment where animals are present. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performs upkeep of grounds, including the operation and basic maintenance of hand and power tools (line trimmers, mowers, etc.)
- Clears sites, prepares them for planting, and plants seeds, trees, shrubbery, and flowers.
- Completes maintenance tasks including cleaning restrooms and picking up litter.
- Makes repairs to a variety of structures and buildings.
- Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
- Uses and maintains tools and equipment properly.
- Utilizes proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during work tasks.
- This position involves physically demanding work outdoors on uneven and steep terrain in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time. This includes carrying and moving tools, materials, and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Reads and understands written instructions and material.
- Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
- Adheres to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- An interest in the preservation of the natural world and historic sites is preferred but not required.
