Employee Relations Attorney (2 Positions Available)

Employee Relations Attorney Title Series : Employee Relations Attorney; Senior Employee Relations Attorney; Associate Employee Relations Attorney; Principal Employee Relations Attorney)

Salary Range :

86,973 - $131,053 (salary / title based on experience)

  • 3% increase in salary range starting April 2025

Location : New York, NY

Position Overview :

The NYS Courts is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Employee Relations Attorney within the Office of Court Administration’s Division of Labor Relations.

Employee Relations Attorneys work closely with the Director of the Division of Labor Relations and are responsible for :

  • Organizing research on issues related to collective negotiations and agreements, grievances, fact-finding, and arbitration proceedings.
  • Assisting with litigation before the Public Employment Relations Board.
  • Performing other duties related to the interaction between the Unified Court System and its unionized employees.
  • Assisting the Director in selecting and training new staff, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and handling day-to-day administrative matters.
  • Drafting correspondence related to employee relations inquiries
  • Preparing confidential reports, memoranda, affidavits, grievance decisions, briefs for administrative and arbitration proceedings and other documents;
  • Representing the Unified Court System in employee relations proceedings before administrative bodies and arbitrators and participating in collective negotiations, grievance review meetings and other administrative proceedings.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Employee Relations Attorney

  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • Senior Employee Relations Attorney

  • Two years in the Employee Relations Attorney title; OR
  • Admission to the New York State Bar and two (2) years of legal experience; OR
  • Admission to the New York State Bar and four (4) years of labor relations experience (all, or a portion thereof, may have been obtained prior to bar admission); OR
  • Admission to the New York State Bar and an equivalent combination of education and legal or labor relations experience.
  • Associate Employee Relations Attorney

  • One year in the Senior Employee Relations Attorney title; or Admission to the New York State Bar and
  • three (3) years of legal experience; or Admission to the New York State Bar and five (5) years of labor relations experience (all, or a portion thereof, may have been obtained prior to bar admission); or
  • Admission to the New York State Bar and an equivalent combination of education and legal or labor relations experience.
  • Principal Employee Relations Attorney

  • One year in the Associate Employee Relations Attorney title; or Admission to the New York State Bar and five (5) years of legal experience;
  • or Admission to the New York State Bar and six (6) years of labor relations experience (all, or a portion thereof, may have been obtained prior to bar admission); or
  • Admission to the New York State Bar and an equivalent combination of education and legal or labor relations experience.
  • Preferred Skills :

    Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.

    Experience or education in labor relations, public sector labor law, or related fields.

    Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment.
