The New York Unified Court System is seeking a First Assistant Deputy Counsel (Capital Planning).
Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To
Admission to the New York State Bar; and
Two years of service in the Associate Counsel title or a minimum of five years of relevant legal experience.
Candidates with capital planning and public facilities legal experience, or related transactional experience in such areas as real estate, government contracts, municipal finance, and state and municipal law, are encouraged to apply.

- Candidates from other branches of NYS government may be appointed at a salary above base salary, up to a maximum of $177,036, pursuant to the New York State Office of the State Comptroller Salary Manual for the Unified Court System
The New York Unified Court System is seeking a First Assistant Deputy Counsel (Capital Planning).
Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To
- Provide advice and counsel to Unified Court System (UCS) Judicial and Executive Leadership on capital planning and court facilities issues
- Serve as a liaison to local governments regarding their legal obligations to provide suitable and sufficient court facilities
- Represent UCS on capital planning projects statewide, advising on architectural services and facilities management
- Serve as Counsel to the Court Facilities Capital Review Board (CFCRB)
- Draft correspondence and legal documents, including leases with private entities for court space
- Coordinate and moderate quarterly board meetings for the CFCRB
- Prepare reports and recommendations for the CFCRB in compliance with statutory requirements, rules, and practices
- Collaborate with other attorneys on court facility-related litigation or FOIL responses
- Draft and review court facilities contracts, addressing financial reimbursement issues in collaboration with the Division of Financial Management
- Assist with other contract and procurement legal matters as assigned
- Some travel within New York State to meet with local government officials and visit court facilities, with travel frequency and timing at the discretion of the successful candidate
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is required
