Job Title: Civil Rights Intake Specialist

Department: Civil Rights Commission.
Max Rate: $23/Hr on W2, Without benefits.
Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday–Friday.
Shift: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 8:30 AM–5:00 PM (schedules based on Agency needs)
Job Overview:
The Intake Specialist will serve as a professional staff member within the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, providing front-line responses to public inquiries, drafting complaints, and supporting investigative processes. This role demands a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to interpret and apply Civil Rights laws effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to online inquiries related to complaint filing.
Conduct effective interviews with potential complainants.
Analyze and summarize information received through inquiries.
Prepare investigative case files.
Issue Notices of Complaint and interrogatories to relevant parties.
Provide excellent customer service via telephone and in person.
Compile and submit monthly reports.
Analyze and apply relevant laws to establish jurisdiction over cases.
Draft motions, including administrative dismissals and default orders.
Research databases for accurate contact information for parties and witnesses.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Practical knowledge of Indiana Civil Rights Law and Federal Civil Rights Laws.
Ability to interpret, analyze, and apply relevant laws and Commission policies.
Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with the public.
Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy.
Typing skills with speed and accuracy.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of related departmental functions and their interactions with the intake/case control division.
Required/Desired Skills Matrix:

Previous legal coursework or paralegal coursework - Required
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 - Required
