What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School Computer Science and Math Teacher position at Newark Academy?
Newark Academy is seeking a dynamic Computer Science / Math teacher to join our Math Department for the 2025-26 school year. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching mathematics and computer science and a demonstrated capacity to embrace student-centered, skills-focused and culturally competent practices. The Math Department faculty is focused on encouraging inquiry and application as well as sharing the love of programming and systems with students. Faculty are encouraged to be involved in the life of the school through clubs, activities and athletics.
Desired Qualifications :
- Experience teaching computer science in middle school, upper school, or higher education settings. Professionals in industry or related fields or with non-traditional paths to education are also encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred
- Topics include but are limited to : JAVA, System Fundamentals, Computer Organization, Networks, Computational Thinking, Problem Solving and Programming, and Object Oriented Programming
- Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents and colleagues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Experience working in independent schools is preferred but not required
- Flexibility to work on a rotating block schedule; classes do not run at the same time each day
