Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Teacher. As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the lead teacher to provide a nurturing and educational environment for our students. Your role will involve assisting with implementing curriculum, implementing behavior management strategies, and supporting the overall growth and development of each child.
The assistant teacher must embrace and practice Montessori philosophy and methods. He/She must, to the best of his/her abilities, adhere to Principle I of the Code of Ethics of the American Montessori Society. We are looking for someone who is willing to complete Montessori Teacher Training in the future.
You must be able to handle the physical demands of being up and down off of the floor with young children.
Hours:
January-May 2025 flexible, part time hours.
Summer opportunity to work our 3 week summer camp in June.
There will be no school in July.
We return mid-August, at which point we are looking for someone who will be able to work at LEAST Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings for the school year.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out directives of the Head Teacher
- Take charge when the Head Teacher is unavailable
- Assist in daily preparation of the classroom
- Assist in caring for the environment
- Become familiar with materials
- Assist with daily activities (line time, hand washing, etc.)
- Present lessons as directed by the Head Teacher
- Reinforce all ground rules
- Model classroom expectations (behavior, voice level, manners, etc.)
- Use positive behavior management
- Prepare snack
- Assist children with soiled/wet clothing or diapers
- Report all accidents to Head Teacher; record them in the Accident Log
- Assist with daily closing activities (vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, etc.)
- Attend all staff meetings and training programs as directed by Head Teacher and/or Director
- Attend school functions
- Assist with visitors/guests
- Answer the telephone in a pleasant manner
Requirements:
- Must meet all requirements for an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher in Delaware (https://education.delaware.gov/educators/child-care-licensing-and-careers/educator-credentialing/become_an_educator/educator_requirements_birth_to_grade_2/)
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students
