The Newaygo County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking individuals to fill seasonal Park Maintenance Worker positions. Newaygo County Park Maintenance Workers keep county parks clean and looking pristine for customers. Primary duties include mowing, weed whipping, landscaping projects, and completing building/grounds maintenance work orders. This seasonal position is great for someone who likes physical work and enjoys mowing and trimming. Ideal candidates will have some landscaping and maintenance skills, but there are also opportunities to learn on the job. Whether it is your first job or a position after retirement, we welcome all skill levels to apply for this position.
The first round of interviews will be the week of March 10. Park Maintenance positions begin employment on April 14.Examples of Duties
- Maintenance duties may include, but are not limited to: litter pick up, landscape development and upkeep, cleaning and maintenance of park facilities and public areas, mowing and trimming around park grounds as needed, shoveling and plowing snow, and assisting with parking and crowd control for special events and programs.
- Prepares and maintains park exterior and interior facilities for use by performing duties such as cleaning, painting and routine maintenance of reservable areas, recreational equipment, shelters, and park grounds adjacent to reservable spaces, common areas, storage rooms, kitchen areas and restrooms.
- Uses and maintains wrenches, pruners, trimmers, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, blowers, brushes, rollers, shovels, rakes, hammers and other common hand tools.
- Operates licensed and non-licensed motor vehicles, ATVs, snow plows, tractors, mowers, brush hogs, loaders and other equipment.
- Assists with conservation, wildlife management, and land stewardship activities in assigned areas.
- Loads, transports, unloads, and handles park operational supplies and equipment.
Typical Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required, must be 18 years of age or older at the time of employment
- Must have valid MI Drivers’ license with an acceptable motor vehicle record
- Good character with no history of serious criminal activity
