General Function
The Custodian shall be responsible for the appearance, cleanliness, sanitation, and minor repairs to areas assigned by Physical Plant Management.
Position Qualifications
· High school education and 5 years of experience in cleaning procedures.
· Familiarity with cleaning techniques and products and experience with minor electrical, plumbing, and building system repairs.
· Consistent promptness and dependability.
· Able to follow safety and appearance guidelines.
· Able to pass a physical examination.
· Possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
· Willing to accept varied job assignments and participate in training to operate equipment.
· Able to lift 50 lbs.

Essential Duties

Essential duties shall include, but not be limited to:
· Perform such work assigned to them by Physical Plant Management, or designee according to established procedures and supervisory instructions. Work assignments shall include, by way of example, painting, minor electrical, plumbing, and building system repairs, receiving deliveries, and other duties as directed to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working facility.
· Demonstrate safe work habits in handling and using cleaning chemicals and in maintaining a safe work environment for students and employees of the agency as well as the general public.
· Participate as member of the agency’s snow removal team.
· Be responsible for securing agency buildings and property.
· Complete work requests for building repairs and light maintenance via the SchoolDude online work order system.
· Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
· Observe assigned work area for potential safety problems, potential electrical or mechanical problems, or any other situation that might have an adverse impact on the customers of the Agency and alleviate the problems if they can be handled within prescribed timeframes or notify Physical Plant Management or submit a work order request depending on the potential risk of the situation.
· Use the agency’s two-way radio system in accordance with established procedures for emergency and routine communications.
· Follow the guidelines of the Maintenance and Custodial Handbook.
· Assist in training new Housekeeping and student worker staff, and give guidance.
· Provide general oversight of student cleaners.
· Deliver inter-district mail to local districts on a weekly basis (if assigned).
· Assist groups using meeting rooms as needed, including room set ups and refreshments, if assigned.
· Lead housekeepers and student cleaners in summer cleaning tasks.
· Assist with snow and litter removal around building entrances when necessary.
· Perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance and care of the Agency grounds and landscapes which includes the operation of electrically or gasoline powered equipment and machines. The use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating and trimming of grounds and landscape.
· Provide feedback to Physical Plant Management on supplies and equipment to provide the most cost-effective and efficient operation possible.
· Responsible for securing buildings at the end of shift.
· Predictable/reliable attendance.
· Perform Quality assurance audits on a regular basis of all housekeeping and student cleaning areas while offering input on areas for improvement.
· Perform other duties deemed appropriate by the Coordinator of Operations.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both indoors and outdoors experiencing extreme temperature fluctuations. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area. Occasionally works in high and confined spaces.
