General Function
The Maintenance Technician shall be responsible to perform various building maintenance services for all NC RESA maintained facilities and ancillary custodial functions in areas assigned to them by Physical Plant Management.
Position Qualifications
· Shall have at least a high school education and/or work experience and training acceptable to the Board of Education along with two years of maintenance-related experience in the crafts and skills of the maintenance position.
· Shall be able to pass a physical examination.
· Shall be able to pass a written skills test as well as a hands on assessment prescribed for the position.
· Shall be able to climb ladders, stoop, crouch, twist, kneel, and crawl in the performance of these duties.
· Shall be able to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
· Shall be physically capable of performing all assigned duties.
· Shall possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record. CDL preferred.
· Shall be willing to accept varied job assignments and participate in training to operate equipment.

Essential Duties
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential duties shall include, but not be limited to:
· Perform work assigned by Physical Plant Management, designee, and in an emergency, by a building administrator. Preventative maintenance duties which include: plumbing, HVAC, and electrical repairs. Must be familiar with and be able to repair and maintain door and building hardware, office partitions, classroom and office furniture, do carpentry work, welding, and painting using related equipment.
· Operate, repair and maintain snow removal and lawn mowing equipment. Be able to obtain an OSHA required operator’s license for a forklift to unload and move supplies and equipment. CDL preferred.
· Move furniture and/or equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed or required by room reservation requests.
· Assume responsibility for opening and/or closing of assigned buildings, securing all doors and windows, turning off all lights except security lights, setting security system if equipped, and securing all outbuildings and agency-owned vehicles.
· Complete work requests for building repairs and maintenance.
· Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
· Assure all safety devices (ex: fire extinguishers and alarms) are operable; advising Physical Plant Management of any and all deficiencies.
· Be observant of all safety rules and regulations; advising Physical Plant Management of any deficiencies.
· Provide feedback to Physical Plant Management on supplies and equipment to promote the most cost effective and efficient maintenance operation possible.
· Follow the guidelines of the Maintenance and Custodial Handbook.
· Perform other duties deemed appropriate by the Coordinator of Operations.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both indoors and outdoors experiencing extreme temperature fluctuations. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area. Occasionally works in high and/or confined spaces.

· Full year position; 8 hours per day
· Position covered under the MESPA master agreement
