General Function
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an evidence-based, intensive parenting program that provides development information and family support to parents through personal home visits and group meetings to promote the healthy development of children from pregnancy to kindergarten.
The Parents as Teachers Parent Educator implements the Parents as Teachers model through home visits, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, the parent educator partners, facilitates and reflects with families.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s or four-year degree in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
· Two years of supervised experience working with young children and/or parents is preferred.
· Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and possessing key characteristics such as empathetic, conscientious, accepting, ethical.
· A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
· Able to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
· Able to work independently and be self-motivated (often in the field).
· Computer skills, including email, internet navigation, and database entry.
· The parent educator must complete and Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation Trainings before delivering PAT services.
Other Qualifications
· Knowledge of early childhood development (prenatal through age 5) and Strengthening Families parenting practices.
· Knowledge of community resources and supports for families living in Newaygo County.
· Willingness to work occasional non-traditional hours (community events/meetings).
· Able to manage flexible schedule to meet monthly home visit requirements.
· Solid organizational and planning skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Able to work as a member of a team and contribute to the agency vision and goals.
· Able to demonstrate confidentiality in all matters.
· Positive leadership skills.
· Must complete and pass required criminal history check.
Essential Duties
Essential duties shall include but not be limited to:
· Plan, provide, and document personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being.
· Engage in parent-child interaction activities, and increase knowledge of ways to support children’s development.
· Engage in recruitment activities (as applicable).
· Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family.
· Develop, monitor, and review goals with each family.
· Provide group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with one another.
· Complete at least initial and annual developmental screening and health review for each enrolled child.
· Complete regular Ages and Stages Questionnaires and other screening tools with families during home visits.
· Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs.
· Help parents and children transition to other services as needed.
· Maintain and submit all required family and program documentation in a timely manner.
· Participate in at least two hours of reflective supervision monthly and at least two hours of staff meetings monthly.
· Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually.
· Participate in continuous quality improvement.
· Work cooperatively with NC RESA’s other Early Childhood Programs.
· Act as a resource to employees, students and the general public visiting the NC RESA.
· Possess knowledge of NC RESA's organization, mission, and philosophy.
· Perform other duties deemed appropriate by the Coordinator of Early Childhood Services.

The PAT Parent Educator shall be directly accountable to the Great Start Coordinator and shall demonstrate commitment to the mission of the Newaygo County RESA through:
