Newberry College is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Dean of the Division of Education. This position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is a key member of the senior academic leadership team. The Dean will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Newberry College’s education programs and preparing graduates for success in their professional journeys.
This role oversees undergraduate educator preparation programs in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Level, Secondary, Special, and Physical Education, as well as non-certification programs such as Administration of Parks and Recreation and Education, Children, and Community. Additionally, the Dean will lead Newberry’s new Master of Education (MEd) in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum program.
The ideal candidate will be an innovative, entrepreneurial leader who is attuned to the evolving needs of teacher candidates and the ever-changing landscape of education. They will possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate strong leadership within team environments, and bring experience fostering collaboration across diverse groups.
Key responsibilities include: strategic enrollment planning; student success and program growth; collaboration within the division and with others in the campus community; community engagement within the region and state; CAEP and other accreditation; and graduate program support and development.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have: an earned doctorate (PhD or EdD); experience at the department chair, assistant principal, principal, or superintendent level; demonstrated success in P-12 and college-level teaching; familiarity with state and national accreditation; familiarity with the Teaching Fellows program; a commitment to serving diverse populations of students; and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
