Description
The Division of Sciences, Mathematics, and Pre-Professional Studies (SMP) at Newberry College seeks a dynamic leader to serve as its Dean. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean will oversee eight programs: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Exercise Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, and Neuroscience.
The Dean will provide strategic leadership to the Division, collaborating with faculty to advance academic excellence, student success, and program innovation. Key responsibilities include managing academic programs, fostering interdisciplinary initiatives, and strengthening connections between the liberal arts and professional fields. The Dean will also build partnerships with local and regional industries to enhance student learning and career readiness.
The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree and have leadership experience at the department chair level or above. A strong background in Exercise Science is preferred, with preference given to candidates holding advanced certifications such as ACSM or NSCA. The Dean will oversee the thriving Exercise Science program, including leading its accreditation efforts, managing its growth, and teaching a limited number of courses.

Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Required: Terminal degree in a field represented in the Division of Science, Mathematics, and Pre-Professional Studies; Leadership experience at the Department Chair level or above.
Preferred: Terminal degree in Exercise Science.
