The SUNY Orange Newburgh Lab School provides care for children from 18 months to Pre-Kindergarten. We provide high quality, affordable and accessible child care to the children of Orange County Community College students, employees and the community.
Reports to: Lab School Site Director
Salary Range: $17.51 - $18.04 per hour based on education and experience.
Education Required: Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education
Experience Required: Two years of experience teaching in a preschool/daycare setting, one of which must be as a lead teacher, preferably in an infant or toddler room.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
Two years’ experience as a lead teacher in a toddler room
Description of Position:
The Toddler Room Teacher is responsible for the daily planning of activities, assessments, and environment of the Toddler Room.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
- Daily planning of activities based on the principles of child development and in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the center.
- Maintaining regular records of the children’s progress and development in a timely fashion. The Toddler Room Teacher will develop plans in order to meet the individual needs of the children as well as the needs of the group.
- Developing and maintaining a cordial working relationship with the parents of the children in the classroom.
- Scheduling of parent teacher meetings during the school year. (Such schedule will comply with the guidelines of the accreditation process developed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.)
- Ensuring that the curriculum is implemented in the classroom in a systematic, timely and developmentally appropriate fashion.
- Developing and maintaining an appropriate learning environment.
- Attending all parent/teacher, and staff meetings during the year.
- Attending all in-service meetings during the year.
- Meeting and maintaining training requirements each year as mandated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services relevant to current teaching position.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees and the public.
- All other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills:
- New York State Certification
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Bilingual Skills.
Working Conditions:
Must be physically able to care for children and move about the classroom freely. Infrequent lifting or carrying objects/children up to 50 lbs. and infrequent travel between buildings on campus is required for this position.
