What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletic Field Groundskeeper position at Newburyport Public Schools?
General:
The Athletic Field Groundskeeper is primarily responsible for the maintenance and game preparation of all athletic fields throughout the district. During the spring and fall sports seasons the Athletic Field Groundskeeper coordinates all work with the Athletic Director to assure that athletic fields are well maintained, safe, and ready for game play. This may at times include city-owned fields utilized by high school teams.
Secondary responsibilities include general building and grounds maintenance as assigned by the Director of Facilities and/or Head of Maintenance and detailed below.
Duties:
oMaintains athletic fields to the highest level possible including mowing, trimming, aerating, fertilizing, etc.
oPrepares athletic fields for game play including grooming and lining
oMaintains irrigation systems
oMows and trims lawn areas
oPrunes/trims trees, shrubs and ivy to maintain a neat appearance and control growth
oMaintains planting beds at all schools
oMaintains courtyards at NHS & Nock/Molin
oMaintains fences and outbuildings including Stadium, dugouts, sheds, etc.
oMaintains grounds equipment based on manufacturer recommendations to keep in peak operating order
oPicks up trash on grounds and empties outside trash/recycling receptacles
oCleans and maintains skate park bathrooms
oPerforms general maintenance work which may include, but not be limited to plumbing, electrical, flooring, carpentry, roofing, painting, etc.
oMakes repairs to equipment such as vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, office equipment, and other machines as needed
oInstalls mirrors, tack boards, white boards, pictures, etc.
oDelivers items between schools as requested
oAssists HVAC Technician with preventive maintenance and repair tasks
oAssists contractors and service personnel
oAssists custodians in moving furniture and rearranging offices, classrooms, etc
oParticipates in snow and ice removal process-checks walks daily during winter
oTakes initiative to identify and correct maintenance related problems
oOther duties incidental to his/her assignment and/or assigned by the Head of Maintenance or Director of Facilities
oWorks in harmony with all other Facilities Department staff, teachers and other staff of the Newburyport Public Schools
oPosition is subject to overtime assignments
Expectations:
The Athletic Field Groundskeeper is expected to maintain all athletic fields, and the school grounds in general to the highest level possible. He/she should also make repairs and installations in a neat, clean and professional manner, carry out all duties listed above, and assist students, staff and the public when requested. Work during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons should focus on exterior tasks as a priority. Scheduling should be coordinated with the Director of Facilities and Athletic Director. Cooperation and assistance should also be given to custodians and other maintenance staff members.
Salary Based on contract between AFSCME and Newburyport School Committee
