What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Counselor position at Newfound Regional High School?
Help students overcome problems that impede learning and assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and
responsible citizens, which includes advising students and parents (if applicable) on post
secondary planning.
Provide individual and group counseling and guidance on a regular basis. Register and provide orientation to students new to the school.
Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
Assist pupils in assessing and understanding their abilities, aptitudes, interests, and educational needs.• Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to
such problems as UNSATISFACTORY interpersonal-social adjustments with peers and/or staff, home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
Assist students in coordinating tutorial help, summer employment, and participation in school and community activities, where applicable.
Help students evaluate career interests and choices by disseminating occupational information, where applicable.
Maintain open lines of communication with staff, students, and parents concerning any issues may arise that will influence student performance
Support the Guidance Lead in any or all testing/assessment programs administered class wide.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all local, state, and federal agencies whose
programs relate to guidance and counseling.
Communicate with the general public the goals of the guidance program.
Advise staff on matters of student behavioral issues.
Communicate issues of importance to the building principal on a regular basis. Complete all reports as requested by the building principal or superintendent.
Attend professional conferences, workshops, and seminars on a regular basis to keep informed about current trends in education.
Attend meetings and serve on committees as requested by the building principal.
Facilitate all aspects of a comprehensive guidance program as designated by the Student Services Administrator.
Perform all other duties or special assignments as may be delegated by the building principal.
Duties specific to Newfound Regional High School:
Provide student information to post-secondary institutions, and potential employers according to provisions of Board policy, when applicable.
Make recommendations to post-secondary institutions for admissions and scholarships, when applicable.
Assist students in course selection and schedule students where applicable.
