Position Summary:
The Home Health & Hospice Biller is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims for home health and hospice services to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies. This position involves managing billing processes, reconciling payments, addressing claim denials, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies. This position is on-site in Montebello, CA.
Pay range: $25-30 per hour
Essential Job Functions:
Claims Processing:
o Prepare and submit claims for home health and hospice services to appropriate payers.
o Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits to ensure accurate billing.
o Possesses strong knowledge of state and federal regulations
Accounts Receivable Management:
o Track, monitor, and reconcile payments to ensure accounts are up to date.
o Research and resolve discrepancies in accounts receivable balances.
o Attends monthly AR review meeting to discuss performance
o Implement processes and procedures to ensure consistency in their region
Denial Management:
o Review and address claim denials or rejections, resubmitting claims as necessary.
o Work closely with payers to resolve billing issues and secure reimbursements.
Compliance and Documentation:
o Maintain knowledge of current Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance guidelines related to home health and hospice billing.
o Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA.
o Demonstrates knowledge of, and respect for, the rights, dignity and individuality of each resident in all interactions
o Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information
o Always demonstrate honesty and integrity
o Strict adherence to the Corporate Compliance Program and Standard of Conduct.
Communication and Coordination:
o Collaborate with clinical staff, intake teams, and administrators to ensure accurate documentation for billing.
o Communicate effectively with insurance companies and patients regarding billing inquiries.
o Able to respond to change productively and to handle additional tasks/projects as assigned
o Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities, and complete duties and projects assigned
Reporting and Analysis:
o Generate and analyze billing reports to monitor trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
o Provide management with regular updates on billing status and outstanding accounts.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree in a related field preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in home health or hospice.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing processes and regulations.
• Proficiency in billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CHBME).
• Familiarity with Home Health or Hospice software systems like Kinnser, Axxess, or MatrixCare.
