Fermentation/Upstream Process Development Research Associate, Product Development
New Leaf Symbiotics (NLS), an agricultural biologicals company is looking for an Upstream Process Development Research Associate with experience in the culture of microorganisms for use as live microbial products. NLS company headquarters and laboratories are located at the BRDG Park facility at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, in St. Louis, Missouri. We are seeking an individual with a passion for sustainable agriculture and biological solutions, who will be responsible for the commercialization of new microbial based products.
Fermentation/Upstream RA Responsibilities and Duties:
- Execution of bioreactor processes for culture of microorganisms; including media and vessel preparation, sampling, harvest, data entry and cleaning and maintenance.
- Grow and harvest bacteria, using aseptic technique, to produce and maintain materials as needed.
- Maintain detailed records of experimental data.
- Assists with on-site pilot plant activities including all Upstream and harvest activities.
- Assist with general lab maintenance duties including media and solution preparation, general equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of the laboratory, and ordering common supplies.
- Assist with other related laboratory projects as needed to help NewLeaf Symbiotics meet its objectives.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma with 2 years of relevant experience or a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Bacterial Physiology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Knowledge of general techniques and principles in microbiology.
- Energetic and self-motivated individual with the ability and desire to work independently as well as in a collaborative team-environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem solving skills, and a detail-oriented approach.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 year of hands-on experience operating laboratory bioreactors.
- Experience with aseptic techniques and culture of microorganisms without the inclusion of selective antibiotics.
- Experience executing experimental protocols for the development of manufacturing processes.
- Experience in a commercial or academic research laboratory environment in the field of microbiology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, microbial fermentation, or industrial microbiology, with an emphasis in microbial applications in agriculture.
