The Company:
Newleos Therapeutics is a clinical stage neuroscience company co-founded by Longwood Fund and seasoned leaders in CNS drug development. Newleos’ clinical-stage pipeline was in-licensed from Roche and includes multiple oral small molecules targeting novel mechanisms across a broad range of indications, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, substance use disorders, and cognitive impairment.
Position Overview:
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced, talented and growing start-up as an Accounting Manager. This role will primarily be responsible for managing the month-end close process, managing aspects of the general ledger and ERP system, vendor management process, ensuring compliance with U.S. Generally
Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP), supporting audits, and other ad hoc projects. A successful candidate will be highly motivated, have strong leadership and communication skills, and a willingness to learn and take on a variety of assignments. This role provides an opportunity for professional growth as Newleos continues to evolve and mature.
This position is based in Back Bay, reports to the Vice President, Finance Operations, and supports a weekly hybrid work schedule with 3 days (Mon, Tues, Wed) in office and 2 days (Thurs & Fri) remote.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure accuracy of financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Company policies
- Perform monthly and quarterly close procedures, including preparing/reviewing journal entries and preparing balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies and procedures
- Oversee the bank reconciliation process and other close-related processes such as Prepaid Expenses, Accounts Payable, Accrued Expenses, etc.
- Prepare Clinical and Manufacturing accrual activities related to the monthly and quarterly close process
- Assist with the maintenance of the general ledger, including accounts, departments and program coding
- Preparing semi-monthly payroll
- Support the finance team in coordination with external auditors for financial statement audit by providing appropriate documentation and resolving inquiries
- Work collaboratively, within finance, cross-functionally and with vendors, to achieve monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc deliverables
- Work collaboratively, both within finance and cross-functionally, to support the development and maintenance of an effective system of internal controls
- Support the finance team and the company with various analyses and ad hoc projects
- Assist with special projects, such as system implementations and business process improvements, as necessary
Qualifications:
· Education/Certification

- Bachelor’s and/or Masters’ degree in the field of Accounting, Finance, or Business
- CPA license preferred
· Experience

- 4 years of accounting or finance experience
- Strong computing skills, including experience with commonly used Financial Systems (e.g. Quickbooks, NetSuite)
- Strong knowledge of fundamental accounting principles, including U.S. GAAP
- Proven track record of collaborating effectively and building strong working relationships
- Life sciences, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, is preferred
- Background in public accounting is preferred
- Experience in a Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliant company is preferred
- Experience with Clinical and / or Manufacturing accruals is preferred
