The Heavy Equipment Shop Technician position is to support Newman Tractor’s service department in providing excellent customer service in a timely fashion. This position is fast paced and highly detailed. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is self-driven, organized, detail-orientated, and an effective communicator. Individuals interested in this position should possess a professional communication style and have a desire to work collaboratively in a shop / warehouse environment with all team members.
Requirements :
Diagnostics and Repairs :
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and motor graders.
- Perform necessary repairs, adjustments, and replacements to restore equipment functionality.
- Utilize diagnostic tools, telematics data, and machine history to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Apply the Four C’s during every service process :
- Complaint : Identify the problem reported by the customer or identified during inspection.
- Cause : Determine the root cause of the issue through thorough diagnostics.
- Correction : Implement the appropriate repair or maintenance action.
- Coverage : Verify warranty or service coverage for the repair.
Preventative Maintenance :
Conduct scheduled maintenance services, including fluid checks, oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.Inspect equipment for wear, damage, or potential failure points.Ensure all safety systems and components are operational and meet required standards.Pre-Work Inspection Process :
Review Machine History :
Access the ERP system to analyze the equipment's service history, including past repairs and recurring issues.Analyze Telematics Data :
Examine telematics reports for fault codes, performance data, and indicators of abnormal operation.Determine Most Likely Failure :
Based on historical and real-time data, hypothesize the most probable cause of failure.Communicate with service advisors or other team members to confirm symptoms and clarify issues.Prepare for Repairs :
Ensure all necessary parts and tools are identified and gathered prior to beginning the repair process.Include additional parts or tools based on history and known failure patterns.Safety Check :
Verify tools, equipment, and the work area are ready and safe for the job.Documentation and Reporting :
Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, parts usage, and labor times in the ERP system.Maintain detailed records of all maintenance performed, including findings and recommendations.Ensure documentation reflects the Four C’s for thorough and accurate service history.Generate reports on equipment condition, completed repairs, and future service needs.Safety and Compliance :
Follow all company and industry safety standards during service and repair activities.Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to environmental safety protocols.Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents and improve efficiency.Collaboration :
Work closely with other shop technicians and service managers to coordinate repairs and ensure smooth workflow.Share expertise and provide technical support to team members when needed.QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Expertise :
Strong knowledge of heavy equipment systems, including diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and transmissions.Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, telematics platforms, and other technical resources.Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.Skills :
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.Other Requirements :
Ability to lift and handle parts and tools weighing up to 50 pounds.Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for detailed repair work.High school diploma or GED required; technical school qualifications preferred.Own tools necessary for heavy equipment repairs.Physical and Environmental Conditions :
Work in a shop environment with exposure to loud noises, dust, and heavy equipment.Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.BENEFITS
